Technology consulting

A tech advisor, without hiring one

Not every problem needs a project, and not every small business needs a full-time IT company. Get hourly help when something comes up, or keep a set amount of time each month.

$125 per hour, or a monthly retainer

Sound familiar?

  • A vendor sent a quote and you can't tell if it's fair
  • You're about to buy computers or software and want a second opinion
  • You'd like a plan for your technology over the next year
  • You have a tech question and nobody to ask

What I can do

  • Reviewing vendor quotes and contracts in plain terms
  • Advice before you buy computers, software, or services, including AI tools
  • A simple technology plan and budget for the year ahead
  • Setting up accounts for a new hire, untangling email, and other one-off fixes

What ByteSize doesn't do

  • Emergency or same-day support
  • 24/7 monitoring or managed IT contracts
  • Cabling, mounting, and camera installs (a vetted local vendor handles those)
  • Hardware repairs (a trusted local repair shop handles those)
  • Legal advice (your attorney handles that)

Ways to work together

Pick what fits

Hourly consulting

For one-off questions and fixes

Pay as you go for the things that don't need a whole project.

Price: $125 per hour

Monthly Retainer

A set amount of time each month

For owners who want a regular check-in and a direct line to the founder without starting a new project each time. This is consulting, not managed IT: there's no 24/7 monitoring or help desk.

Price: Priced to fit: hours, scope, and response time are agreed together up front

How it works

From first conversation to follow-up

  1. Free consultation

20 to 30 minutes by phone, video, or over coffee. Tell me the problem, and I'll include a quick 10-point check of your basics.

  2. One-page proposal

The outcome, the price, and a start date. Small fixes get an hourly estimate instead. No long contract.

  3. The work

I work around your schedule and finish with a written summary you can keep.

  4. 30-day follow-up

A check-in a month later to make sure everything is still working for you.

What's the difference between hourly and the retainer?

Hourly is pay-as-you-go for one-off questions and fixes. The retainer sets aside time each month for regular check-ins, with hours, scope, and response time agreed up front.

Is the retainer the same as managed IT?

No. It's scheduled consulting time, not round-the-clock monitoring or a help desk. Many small businesses don't need managed IT, and I'll tell you honestly if yours does.

Not sure what you need?

That's what the free consultation is for. Tell me what's going on, and I'll suggest the simplest way to handle it.
