About ByteSize

You work directly with the founder

ByteSize Technology is a one-person IT and security consultancy in Madison, Mississippi. I'm Matt Smith, founder and lead consultant, and I bring public-sector IT leadership experience to owner-led businesses with 1 to 25 people.

My story

Why I started ByteSize

I started ByteSize Technology because I kept seeing the same problem: small business owners who knew technology mattered, but had no one to explain it in plain English or to show them it can be affordable. I first saw it as the IT specialist at the Mississippi Small Business Development Center. I saw it again working in economic development for the City of Madison, across the table from the people who keep this community running. Today I lead technology in the public sector, where I watch the same threats that hit large organizations show up at the small office down the street.

That’s where the name comes from. Technology is a mouthful, so I take it one byte at a time: one problem, one fixed price, explained in words that make sense. I have a computer science degree with a security emphasis from Ole Miss and certifications from ISC2 and Fortinet. But my job isn’t to impress you with jargon. It’s to give your business real protection, sized to fit, and to tell you honestly when something isn’t worth your money.

Madison is home. My wife Jessica and I are raising our two young kids here, and she runs her own watercolor business, so I know what it’s like when the business and the household share a kitchen table. When you work with ByteSize, you work directly with me, a neighbor who wants your business protected the way I’d protect my own family.
